2 day workshop with
Seth Apter & Mary Beth Shaw
November 11th & 12th, 2017
St. Louis, MO
Join Seth Apter and Mary Beth Shaw as they teach the class of their dreams - where they compare and contrast their different methodologies, allowing the art and the students to be the guide. They will riff off each other with a ton of mixed media techniques, exploring various manners of working. In this two-day workshop at Mary Beth’s studio, students will complete one or more stretched canvasses to build layered mixed media paintings. As a student, you will find no limit to the inspiration that transpires. Expect the unexpected.
We will cover the following:
-Various background techniques for starting a mixed media painting
-Color Management with Seth’s Paper Artsy paints & Mary Beth’s Favorite Golden acrylics; how to layer them together.
-Texture! How do Seth & Mary Beth each approach texture in their work; when and how to apply; which textures work best
-Selection of Collage components, how to pick meaningful items and what to do to make them your own, plus when to use them in your pieces
-Ways to beef up value changes
-Mark making vs. handwriting, when to use each, different approaches, which products to use
-The addition of 3D elements for emphasis and focal points
-Glazing techniques with ink and acrylic
-Integration using rubber stamps and stencils
$295 includes most supplies. Class size is limited to 12 students.
